Active holidays, adventurous holidays and camping holidays are the most popular among visitors to Vakantiebeurs 2011.
Active and adventurous holidays have stolen the hearts of visitors to Vakantiebeurs 2011: 23% choose one of either type of holiday. And with 21%, camping holidays are also still doing remarkably well in the ratings. Of the visitors to the event, 53% indicated a holiday destination in Europe and 44% a more distant destination. These figures were revealed by the evaluation held by fair organisers VNU Exhibitions Europe. Vakantiebeurs was open to the general public from Wednesday 12 January up to Sunday 16 January inclusive.
France (15%), Italy (13%) and Spain (10%) are the most popular destinations mentioned by the group of visitors who indicated that they will be holidaying in Europe. This top 3 is followed by Greece (7%), Norway (6%) and Germany (5%). Among visitors with a preference for far flung destinations Asia is firmly in the top position it already held last year, and increased in popularity from 25% of the votes to 33%. Next in line were the United States and Africa, both with 13%, and South America with 7%. Holiday makers indicated they expect to spend an average of 2250 euro on their next holiday.
Plane and car
When questioned on the method of transport used to reach the holiday destination, flying is still the most popular at 56% (last year 58%). Driving remained more or less stable at 37% (was 38%). A notable conclusion that can be drawn from the results is that using internet to book holidays, following a rapid rise in recent years, has also remained virtually unchanged at 22% (last year 23%).
Primary reason
For 45% of the visitors the primary reason to visit the Vakantiebeurs is to obtain information about the next holiday destination, followed by 22% who actually choose a holiday at the event. Another 22% come for atmosphere and to get into the holiday mood.
